Project TouCans F2 Map
Data provided by GloTEC
The map below shows the height of the F2 layer from the latest NOAA GloTEC, (Global Total Electron Content), model of the ionososphere. Optimally, GloTEC data is updated by the NOAA every ten minutes with the most recent data being thirty minutes in the past. The last sample time is shown at tht bottom of the map selector box. The squares indicate the foF2, (critical frequency), value for that portion of the Earth, the spires ascend to the height of the F2, (hmF2), layer per the model at that location. 73 de KD0FNR and KO6BTY.
Notes:
2025-03-02 the Cesium viewer has a new behavior today on smart phones. When selecting a grid square to find an fof2 value, hold your finger in place until the green selection indicator appears and locks in place. If you do not, the readings will be erratic and frequently incorrect. You'll notice the color (and associated numeric range) of the grid square won't necessarily match the value displayed for the square. Another symptom is that when you move the map, the indicator will float over the surface of the globe.
On desktop and laptop comuters, the same symptoms occasionally occur. What we've been able to do so far is click repeatedly in a box until the green selection indicator centers on the box and locks to the map. It can help to turn off the hmF2 data indicators in the upper-left corner selector control so that you can click directly in the center of the fof2 square.
Superbe ! mais totalement inutilisable. Impossible de voir les pays/continents. Jean
