Expanding from the Mandarin pinyin post a few years back: Either copy and paste 'em into your document, or in Word you can also type the hex code for followed by holding down alt and x at the same time. Everything below is good, but check out 300+alt+x and 301+alt+x. They add either a grave, or an acute accent, respectively, to any preceding consonant(?), (at least any consonant I've tried including m, n, h, M, and N, and some vowels like o and u, but not a, or e.) 305+alt+x is the macron, aka the long vowel symbol for people that went to public school in the '80s in the States, like me. Once again, it seems to work with consonants, and the letter o.
