The Tempel Riddare Ordens

While wondering around Stockholm, I found a building that had what appeared to be Scottish Rite symbols on its entrance. It is the home of the Tempel Riddare Ordens in Stockholm. Of course, wikipedia had the anwer . It turns out that this is an organization that probably has Masonic roots and was founded in the United States in 1845 as part of the temperance movement. It was originally known as the "Marshall Temperance Fraternity" and promoted complete abstinence from alchoholic beverages. It now exists only in Scandanavia and is know as Tempel Riddare Ordens. Another Masonic tie: From the Charge of the Entered Apprentice Degree: "... and [a duty] to yourself, in avoiding all irregularity and intemperance, which may impair your faculties, or debase the dignity of your profession. ..."

Masonic School? No. Masonic King? Yes.

Yesterday, I added a little curiosity entry about a school I came across in Stockholm. The northern side of the school was emblazoned with what appeared to be several Masonic symbols. I wondered what it was, so I did a little digging, and here's what I found. First, here are references to the sources: Symbols of Growth: The Decoration of Swedish Schools 1890-1920 from Article 4, Inferno Volume VIII, 2003 1 THE SWEDISH CONSTITUTION, Nordic Esotericism in Baroque Splendour by W.Bro Alex G. Davidson The school pictured is the Adolf Fredrick Folkskola. The school and the symbols are mentioned in the 'Decoration' article: "The towering north edifice is emblazoned with blue and gold shields representing school subjects, each pierced by a beam of light from the sun and burning torch motif. The theoretical (older) subjects orbit around the sun, whilst the practical (newer) subjects emanate from the torch. The torch was a subtle play on the name of this district of Stockhol...

Blog Flash from Kista Sweden: What's This?

National Treasure, The Freemasons, Mt. Rushmore, and The Statue of Liberty

A recent post in this blog reviewed an article in the most recent issue of "Scottish Rite Journal" by Richard Fletcher that revealed further Masonic links to National Treasure: Book of Secrets . I recently communicated with Brother Fletcher via e-mail and he pointed out that Mount Rushmore, the setting for the final scenes of the movie, has even more Masonic connections. As discussed here , two of the presidents on Mount Rushmore are Masons, Washington and Roosevelt. But, that's not all. Brother Fletcher says: "The concluding scenes of the movie take place at Mount Rushmore in South Dakota. The movie makes no reference to the sculptor but both Gutzon Borglum, who was the sculptor of the Mount Rushmore National Memorial, and his son Lincoln Borglum were Freemasons. Following the death of his father, Lincoln Borglum was assigned the task of completing the Mount Rushmore Memorial. Gutzon Borglum was raised in Howard Lodge #35 in New York City and served as its Mas...

National Treasure: Book of Secrets Masonic Update

After the release of National Treasure: Book of Secrets , several posts about the links between the movie and the Scottish Rite including links to the Page 47 mystery were published here . It turns out there's even more to it. The last two issues of "Scottish Rite Journal" have highlighted more real-world connections between the movie's production and the Scottish Rite. Walt Disney used real-world treasure hunts in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York City to promote the movie. All three treasure hunts ended at Scottish Rite temples . All three of these buildings are architecturally and symbolically stunning. Washington DC Virtual Tour San Francisco: More Information Los Angeles: More Information The most recent issue of The Scottish Rite Journal contains a movie review by Richard E. Fletcher, 33º. The article touches on more Masonic connections in the movie and hints that part III may have Masonic connections as well. Brother Fletcher says: "At the premie...

Masonic Patent: The Masonic Degrees

Several movies like, National Treasure, Book of Secrets have popularized Masonic imagery. The page 47 mystery and its Masonic ties are highlighted here ... y aquí . This Masonic Patent, (click the image for a larger picture), is representative of the Masonic initiates experience. Masons attend a series of initiations called degrees. There are three initial degrees that an initiate attends before they are a full fledged Master Mason. These are the Entered Apprentice, Fellowcraft, and Master Mason degrees. Each of these initiations consists of a similar ceremony, each with it's own unique symbolism that imparts some new Masonic lesson. The symbolism of the three initial degrees of Freemasonry with some overlap are shown in the tree highlighted areas of the patent. Much of the source material for these posts will come from the California Grand Lodge's degree manuals . Notice the highlighted text at the bottom of the patent. The degree manual fort the EA has this to say...

Masonic Patent

The picture below is of an old, circa 1887, Masonic Patent. The story goes that Masons used to present these to gain access to lodges they visited in their travels. The next several posts will point out some of the symbolism of this patent, and what it means. First though, has any reader seen this patent in their lodge? It portrays the York Rite degrees as the viewers eyes move from top to bottom. I'd like to find out what regions of the country this patent may have been used in.

Samothraki and the Sanctuary of the Great Gods

Last Autumn I visited the small island of Samothraki, Greece in the northeastern Aegean Sea. The island is beautiful with rocky beaches, mountains, dense forests, and natural waterfalls all packed into a small space. View Larger Map But, what initially drew my attention to it was the Sanctuary of the Great Gods . Alexander the Great's mother and father met there during a initiation. I wanted to find out if there were any links between modern-day Masonic ceremonies and the ritual initiations performed there. The site is beautiful! The layout doesn't fit with the east-west layout of today's lodges. Almost every building on the site was situated north-south. Of course, with the gorgeous views of the sea to the north, who could blame them! This site of temples and meeting halls is also where the "Winged Victory" statue was found. The statue "Winged Victory", which now resides in the Louvre was found on Samothraki and recently featured in the movie Ange...

Superboy: The DaVinci Connection

Part I Part II Last Time : In my last Superman conspiracy post, I promised more insight into the DaVinci connection. First, a review: The movie The DaVinci Code made the painting The Last Supper by Leonardo DaVinci even more famous. As I mused about the possibility that Superman could be a modern day Messianic legend, I mentioned the similarities between the color themes of Jesus and John's, (Mary Magdalene's?) clothes and those of Superboy and Mon-El. Sure, the colors are the same, but what other connections are there? Well, the original pre-Crisis version of Superboy sacrifices himself to save Earth. Because he uses his own body as a conductor between two wide spread energy terminals, he dies with arms outspread as if on a crucifix. Meanwhile, Mon-El, his best friend is left to carry on his works. For an impressive recounting of this link to: The Greatest Hero of Them All OK, we have the sacrifice of the heroic messiah figure, but what about the sacred femini...

La Búsqueda El Diario Secreto Página 47 y los Santos Juanes

In English En extendiendo mi investigación en La Búsqueda El Diario Secreto Página 47 Masónic conexión, Yo encontró algo hechos interesantes.

Jesus Christ: Superstar or Superman: Jesus Christ?

Part I Part II Is the Superman story a modern-day Messianic legend? A comic book, an animated movie, a Jewish temple, DaVinci, and the latest Superman movie all offer evidence. Is there a connection? Does our author simply have too much time on his hands? You decide. My interest in this all started years ago. The comic book character Superman was killed by an alien villain, Doomsday. There was a lot of fanfare, and a funeral was attended by most of the other superheroes. But, low and behold, a few days later, Superman came back to life. The whole resurrection thing seemed a bit odd, but it wasn't too big of a deal. In addition to the comic book version , recently, an animated film of the same story was released. Then, a few years later, I was jogging to Central Park in Manhattan when I passed the Temple Emanu-El . The building is beautiful! If you get a chance, go visit. But what captured my interest was the -El ending of the temple's name. It reminded...

Free Pancakes!!! Social Networking Charity/Volunteer Experiment

Just Get Me to the Pancakes! The Question : Can social networking and bookmark networking sites be used to associate donors and volunteers with charity events in the real world? The experiment : A blog post about the event will be written and connected to the various bookmarking and social networking sites. The hypothesis : Site users from the area near the event who want to get involved and involve others will see the post and vote for it. As the post receives more votes, it will become more visible and more area users will hear about the event. This positive feedback mechanism will help more people turn out for the event. The Measurement : The post will contain printable event badges for each social networking site it is associated with. People that donate can print the badges and add them to their donation. A tally will be kept of the donations from each site. So, here goes! The event : On February 12th in Austin, TX, IHOP and the Shriners will be teaming up to raise money fo...
